Masha Popova is the eponymous label of the Ukrainian-born womenswear designer best known for her wearable high-fashion denim designs and colourful embroidered pieces that fuses fantasy with childhood nostalgia.
Having completed her studies at Central Saint Martins (CSM) with both a BA and MA, Masha Popova’s fashion journey includes internships at the fashion houses of Maison Margiela and Celine. Her unique perspective on fashion stems from her early years in Ukraine where she grew up near an industrial area close to the railway depot where her father worked, as well as studying Architecture at the seaside city of Odesa before pursuing Fashion at CSM.
The influences of Masha Popova’s upbringing are evident in her work, inspired from post-Soviet suburban life as viewed from the lens of her childhood memories. Notably, her designs have adorned celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Bella Hadid and Kylie Jenner.
Masha Popova’s work is a melting pot of two worlds: late 20th century high fashion juxtaposed with the raw energy and laid-back attitude of 1990s-2000s clothing. Through her irreverent take on sensuality paired with playful turbulent draping and nonconformist use of materials, she crafts elegant yet carefree collections exuding effortless sophistication.
